I just got an Easter card from a friend. It's lovely and well rendered, graphically. Take a look at it here. Do that before you read the rest of the post.
Now....can anybody guess why I find this card disheartening? Two thumbs up to the first contestant that gets it right!

-The text that’s cited here is about Christ’s vigorous defense of the sheep and not being a pansy hireling who doesn’t give a rip about them.
-The text that’s portrayed here (I think):
Luke 15:4-7 "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? "And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. "And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!' "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
-The sheep in the clip sees the shepherd and runs to it. But the text talks of the sheep in a passive sense, more about the shepherd than the sheep.
-NO MENTION OF SIN OR REPENTANCE.
-NO MENTION OF JOY AMONGST OTHERS.
Ding ding ding ding ding!
We have a winner! (That was FAST!)
Yes...I was appalled at the biblical ignorance shown in the piece. It put all the onus on the sheep, and just let the shepherd kinda wait until the sheep wised up.
We serve a marvelous shepherd who is willing to go through the Hellish death of crucifixion in order to save his sheep. Let's not forget that as we enter into Holy Week (even though we're celebrating at least two weeks ahead of turn).
By the way,
I saw your unprofessional personality type test link and I founf out by Jungian /Meyer-briggs standards I'm an INTJ, however I don't buy their a-moral assessment of personalities.
I'm just glad that the little sheep was not the paschal lamb...
That would most definitely NOT a Hallmark moment!
Sinless salvation - perfect for Christopaganism.
Great thoughts, John! The lamb is just "in the dark" waiting to find its own light. It didn't run away from the shepherd...in fact, it had the gumption to go looking for the shepherd!
Thanks be to God that we don't serve a Savior who leaves us wandering on our own.
