The Next Red Scare

You might have seen the political hit piece that is passing as the DHS's report on "Right Wing Extremism." If not, Michelle Malkin is commenting on it with great acumen. All I have to say is this:

McCarthyism is McCarthyism - no matter which side is doing it.

Just be ready for the new Red State Scare.

The profound irony of posts like this is too much for me to express. My head is exploding.

Doug,

I only post for you. You know that.

Chris,

the problem is that this report was in the works prior to the new administration.

There are some things I don't agree with, but the comments on one military listserv I belong to are basically, yeah, there are problems with it, but it has some good points to it.

Of course it was. The Bush administration had been drawing severe criticism from "right wing extremists" over his massive expansion of government in the Patriot Act and spending spree. (Yes...many of us are against gov't expansion no matter whose team is doing the dirty work.)

As someone else pointed out, there's a lot of CYA material in here as well - part of the intelligence paranoia following the massive failures that led to 9/11. I think somewhere there's a monograph about the problems incumbent if badgers ever attain sock technology and - of course - scenarios for dealing with snakes on a plane.
